The Films of Don Knotts: An American Icon
THE GHOST & MR. CHICKEN (1966)
In one of his funniest film outings, Don Knotts plays a milquetoast newspaper typesetter whose big chance to become a reporter has arrived--and all he has to do is spend the night in a ‘supposedly’ haunted house. Chills and chuckles mix in this classic comedy that also stars Joan Staley & Dick Sargent.
Running time: 90 min.

THE INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET (1964)
The very first film to blend live action and animation. In
perhaps his most memorable film performance, Knotts stars as Henry Limpet, a mild-mannered bookkeeper for a shipping line who fantasizes about going off to sea and becoming a hero during World War II, but he's been sidelined from serving due to poor eyesight. Limpet is ridiculed at work and by his wife, and he clearly likes pet his fish better. Standing over his aquarium one day he wishes he could be a fish… and the next day when he actually falls into the water at Coney Island, he is granted his wish and transformed. As fish "Henry" he emits a distinctive noise when swimming, like sonar, that wards off predators and he realizes he can use that noise to help the US Navy locate and destroy Nazi submarines. This makes it possible for him to finally live out his fantasies, and become a war hero. Director Arthur Lubin also directed the ‘Abbot and Costello’ and ‘Francis the Talking Mule’ films.
Running time: 99 min.

Don Knotts plays the title role in this offbeat satire as the meek editor of a bird watching magazine who becomes a national celebrity when, without his knowledge, his new publisher turns it into a girlie magazine.
